MK Crossfader
Choose between MIDI multi-mapping and VST3 audio crossfading. Each works independently in Maschine 3 or Ableton Live.
MK Crossfader 0.3.1 is available for macOS. Download the installer and matching checksum from the official GitHub release.
Combined installer: macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon or Intel. Tested in Maschine 3 and Ableton Live; a compatible VST3 host is required for the plug-in. Maschine+ must be in Controller mode. The app and plug-in do not run on Maschine+ standalone. No Windows installer is available.
Installation status
Do not use unofficial copies of the withdrawn packages. GitHub's source ZIP and TAR files are source code, not installers.
When an installer is available, save your work and close the MIDI app and audio hosts. Download the .pkg and matching checksum from the official release page, verify the checksum and run the installer. The combined package requires macOS 14 or later. Then restart or rescan your host.
The package installs the MIDI app in Applications, the VST3 in the system Audio Plug-Ins folder and documentation in Application Support. Developers can follow the source-build guide; local development builds are not signed public releases.
MIDI multi-mapping
- Open MK MIDI Crossfader and select your physical MIDI controller. Press MIDI Learn and move a fader or knob that sends a MIDI CC.
- Enable the virtual MK Crossfader input in your destination. In Ableton Live, enable Remote for this input in Settings → Link, Tempo & MIDI.
- Add a Parameter target in the app. Activate MIDI Learn on the destination parameter, then press Send Learn in the app.
- Repeat for each parameter. Set each target to A, B, Range or Off, and adjust its curve and range.
- Save the app preset and your host project. Live stores its MIDI assignments in the Set; the app does not read them back.
Use this workflow for levels, filters, sends and effects. The Maschine-calibrated Level target is for Maschine 3; general Parameter targets work with other MIDI-learnable destinations. Max for Live is not required.
VST3 audio crossfading
- Add MK Crossfader to Master or Main and select the Controller role. This instance distributes control without fading the master audio.
- Map its Crossfader parameter to your hardware using the host's parameter mapping.
- Add a Target after the instrument or effects on each audio path you want to fade.
- Use the same session for all instances and give each Target a unique slot.
- Assign each route to A, B or Off in the Controller. Test the full movement and confirm all required Targets are connected.
Targets apply smoothed audio gain locally. They do not move mixer faders, process MIDI or control other plug-in parameters. The MIDI app does not need to be running.
Before playing live
Test the exact project, host version, controller and USB connection you will use. Keep a manual unity or neutral recovery control available.
A VST3 Target that loses its Controller holds its last valid gain. A MIDI Return Value is a value you choose, not a remembered host setting; it cannot be sent after a crash or power loss.
